CHEMICAL PEEL
Chemical Peeling is a process which causes destruction of a part or entire epidermis with or without dermis leading to exfoliation of superficial layers followed by regeneration of new epidermal and dermal tissue.
TYPES OF CHEMICAL PEELS
According to involvement of layers of epidermis and dermis of skin, it has 4 types
a) Very superficial peel
b) Superficial peel
c) Medium depth peel
d) Deep peel

Your doctor will tell you after inspection of your skin, for what purpose and which type and percent of chemical peel is needed on your skin. After taking consent and instruct about proper priming of skin your doctor will do a whole procedure of chemcial peel on your skin. After proper completion of procedure one must follow post procedure care in order to get a good result and to prevent from skin damage.
POST PROCEDURE CARE
a)First and foremost thing not to go under the sun or in front of stove or in warm space for first 24 hours.
If in need you must wear a broad spectrum sunblock and hat or cap before leaving for that place.
b).Mild soap or non-soap cleanser may be used.
c)Cold compresses may be used to soothe the skin.
d)A broad-spectrum sun screen use is mandatory.
e)The use of bland emollient 2-4 times a day until peeling is complete
.
f)Patient should be counselled well to follow proper instructions, avoid excoriating or scratching the skin.
g)Use of analgesics if needed.
h)Advice to follow-up and an early visit in case of complication.
FREQUENCY
a) For Very superficial weekly, fortnightly, monthly
b) For Superficial 2-6 weeks
c) For Medium 3-6 months
d) For Deep 6-12 months
Wait for inflammation to subside and proper slough off of skin before next peel.
RE-EVALUATION
Always re-evaluate the skin and re-check for contraindications before peeling.
CONDITIONS TO AVOID CHEMICAL PEEL
Do not do chemical peel in very sensitive skin or having any ulcerative lesion on skin.
Do not re-peel if there is any sensitivity or erythema persisting from a previous peel
SIDE EFFECTS
a)Skin allergy
b)Itching
c)Erythema or edema
d) Hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation
e) Milia or scaring
